VHS tapes are very common and are labelled as such, however you can Google VHS tapes and compare pictures to your tapes to confirm.

The most common recording methods on VHS were standard play (SP) or long play (LP), both of which can be transferred to digital. 

As VHS is an old format, the quality of VHS video tape is not as high quality as modern DVD, Blu-Ray or 4K formats. VHS resolution is around 288 pixels, whereas DVD is 576, Blu-Ray is 1080 and 4K is 2160 pixels.

Obviously you can check if a VHS tape still works by playing it in your VHS player, but most people have gotten rid of their old video players.
