GF Video Transfers can transfer VHS tapes, VHS-C tapes (mini VHS), MiniDV camcorder tapes, Video8/Hi8/Digital8, audio cassettes, CD, DVD, Vinyl and Cine Film reels to digital.

VHS tapes and audio cassettes are very common and are labelled as such, however you can Google VHS tapes, or Video8 tapes or Cine Reel and compare pictures to your tapes to confirm. Or you are welcome to send us pictures via email or WhatsApp to determine what type of media you have.

GF Video Transfers can transfer your video tapes, camcorder tapes and reels to DVD, or MP4 video files (placed on a USB memory stick). Audio cassettes and vinyl can be transferred to CD or MP3 (placed on a USB memory stick). DVD's and CD's can also be transferred to USB. We can either send them to you via WeTransfer (a free online file transferring service) or place them onto a USB memory stick for you (this is the most common option).

As VHS, VHS-C, Video8, Hi8 and Digital8 are old formats, the quality of VHS video tape is not as high quality as modern DVD, Blu-Ray or 4K formats. VHS resolution is around 288 pixels, whereas DVD is 576, Blu-Ray is 1080 and 4K is 2160 pixels.

MiniDV is around DVD quality.

Cine Film doesn't have a resolution as such, but if kept well, these can be captured at good quality.

Analogue VHS quality is below today’s available digital resolutions, and colours are not as rich, but they are still perfectly watchable. GF Video Transfers will get as much quality from the VHS and as possible.

Obviously you can check if a VHS tape or camcorder tape still works by playing it in your VHS player or camcorder, but most people have got rid of their old video players and cameras.

VHS tapes and camcorder tapes are known to be quite durable and long lasting and you may be surprised how long your old tapes have lasted. The same applies to cine film reels.

GF Video Transfers are not responsible for the state of your video tapes but every effort will be made to look after the video tapes and reels as received and return them to you in the condition provided to us.

If any of your media is broken, GF Video Transfers will attempt to fix them. Old VHS can suffer from mould on the outside of the tape reels. If so, we will run your tape through a machine to clean off the mould before capturing. CD's and DVD's can become scratched over the years, and we can run them through recovery software to extract media from them if necessary.

Yes, with older media such as VHS tapes and Video8 tapes, we work to get the most out of the tapes as possible. Using our various capture devies, we capture the footage at the best possible quality and from there we choose the best capture and work to improve frame edges, stability and apply smart sharpening to bring as much picture quality out of the footage as possible. We finally export the footage at  a high bitrate to a suitably sized USB stick, ready for your viewing.

If any of your media turns out to blank, we do not charge. If you drop a large amount of media with us and unfortunately they all are blank, then a small nominal charge is applicable.

We accept tapes sent to us through the post and can return them to you via recorded delivery for safety. Therefore our service covers the whole of the UK.

Tapes and reels can be dropped off at our location in Horsforth, Leeds, or posted to us; completed transfers will be returned by recorded delivery. All of which can be discussed, so please contact us.
